Tourist Arrivals in April 2002 (by air only)
Visitor Arrival declines
A
total of 18,078 tourists visited Nepal by air in April
2002, which included 13,747 visitors from third
country and 4,337 from India. April arrival also
recorded a decrease by 48.82% over the same period of
2001 representing a loss of 17,247 tourists. This
constitutes of 52% decline among third country
visitors and 37% decline among Indian visitors.
The
main markets to have suffered major decline include
USA, UK, Japan and France, which were down by 58%,
60.6%, 34.3% and 52.4% respectively.
Arrivals
by air had just started to pick up and was showing
some positive signs after March but the news of five
days long strike (Bandh) in April affected the arrival
scenario. Though the Bandh does not seem to be
effective this time onwards, compared to the first
half of the month, arrivals in the second half of
April has decreased.
