Update
6/25/2001: Peter
Guggemos is fine and still climbing on K2.
A
report that Peter
Guggemos, leader of the
German (International) Focus K2 Expedition, was "evacuated"
by helicopter alarmed some folks. Our EverestNews.com
sources for K2 DID
NOT report this information
to us causing us to wonder. EverestNews.com checked
again with our sources who
knew nothing about this.
We then contacted Focus expeditions.
Manuel
Lugli, expedition leader
and general manager of Focus Expeditions in Italy
stated to EverestNews.com that the report is "FAKE".
"PETER GUGGEMOS IS SAFE AND SOUND, STILL CLIMBING
WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM."
As we
stated in May, our
approach this year is to do the very best we can for
you, and not address these cases of bad reporting.
If someone is reporting something you think is untrue,
e-mail them and tell them so!
However,
of course, when web sites and/or newspapers report falsely
names of climbers who died and/or rescued and that simply did
not happen, then we must address in this case.
Once
again "PETER
GUGGEMOS IS SAFE AND SOUND, STILL CLIMBING WITHOUT ANY
PROBLEM". What you might have read elsewhere is
WRONG.
Manuel
Lugli is a member of the
Ararat 2001 Peace Climb. Manuel did get injured a
few weeks ago, and is now trying to recover so he can
attend the climb. We hope he recovers in time!
Update
5/22/2001: EverestNews.com is receiving reports from
family members and friends stating others web sites are
reporting climbers on Everest that are not even there
this year [That is a good one!].
Reports of climbers still on the mountain who have
left Everest. Reports of Summits by climbers who has
not. In past years EverestNews.com has addressed some of
these cases. Our
approach this year is to do the very best we can for
you, and not address these cases.
If someone is reporting something you think is untrue,
e-mail them and tell them so!
Update
4/11/2001: EverestNews.com can always use volunteers
who can translate different languages. As You know, if
you have been with us for a while, EverestNews.com is
a web site that attempts to cover climbers from all
over the world on Everest and therefore is a world
wide site. A fact that may surprise many is that only
35% of our visitors are from the U.S.
EverestNews.com receives numerous e-mails and reports
in many different languages and is always looking for
volunteers to assist us from time to time translate
them or confirm translations. Also, one of our main
translators went climbing this spring. Imagine that!!!
