International Peace & Friendship expedition to Broad Peak 2003

Climb headquarters is the Field Touring office in North Perth, Australia. In the build up to departure we are attending mainly to equipment details, making sure the right stoves go over, that they will screw onto the gas bottles in Pakistan we have purchased, topping up the med kit, organizing satellite phone connections and permits.

In Pakistan our local staff have finalized the permit with the Ministry, and have added four more climbers to share our permit. This helps get the ground and permit cost down for all members and is a common practice amongst teams. The 4 members of this new addition will not be climbing with us however, instead trying their luck on a new route.

Individually, our team members are going through the inevitable "shall I take it or leave it", and most lounge rooms in members homes are apparently "strewn with gear". Its a tough week for everyone, from our end we are scrutinizing and poring over everything to make sure no "dumb mistakes" get past us, and for the team members, its the last chance to finalize things on the domestic and professional front, as well as the last week they will spend with loved ones and friends for over 2 months.
