International Peace & Friendship expedition to Broad Peak 2003

 Current Pakistan Time

June 24: We arrived at Broad Peak base-camp today, looking up and feeling extremely humble. As we rounded the corner into the vast expanse of Concordia after lunch today, the weather did a good job of concealing the array of snow capped peaks we knew surrounded us. But not long ago the weather lifted, and we snatched our first few glimpses of these really big hills.

It took us longer to get here than we had anticipated, due to our frequent stops to take photos and absorb the wonderful scenery surrounding us on every side as we moved up the final reaches of the Baltoro glacier. The last few hours we stumbled through a maze of snow, boulders, and small holes, in driving snow and some high winds. We are all a little tired, feeling the height and effort from the walk in today, but our sprawling base-camp infrastructure is taking shape and we are getting comfortable.

The sunset was awesome, an amazing and uplifting view that did enough for our tired spirits……..….the colors are amazing,  all around us are tremendous hunks or rock and ice, and the sky is clearing..

There has been some rain and snow, on the 22nd we had very heavy snow….we are hoping it hasn’t put too much higher up on the hill…..connection lost
