Dispatch One: Martin, Radek, and
Miska left Prague yesterday and arrived in Islamabad at 7AM today. The weather
there is hot, hot; today's temperature was 103 degrees F (39 degrees C). "We
don't need to worry that the our meet will rot", say the guys, "it will get
perfectly cooked in the barrels in a day or two!" Their cargo was waiting for
them at their hotel (Good job, Adventure Tours!), and after a dinner with the
liaison officer the expedition got to a nightshift -- repacking the load.
Check here for the full dispatch.
A
three-man Czech expedition to the Broad Peak and K2,
Radek Jaros, Martin Minarik, and Petr “Miska” Masek, is
ready to depart for Pakistan on June1. As it was the
case of all their previous expeditions, they plan to
climb without any supplemental oxygen or high-altitude
porters. For two members, Radek Jaros and Petr “Miska”
Masek, it will be their second attempt on K2; in 2001
they were too late for the fair weather to let them to
the top.

Martin is in charge of
dealing with the English speaking authorities, Radek is in charge of
communicating with our sponsors, and Petr (Miska) is in charge of all the
climbing gear. All their services in Pakistan will be handled by ATP (Ashraf
Aman's company). The same agency was helping their previous expeditions to
Pakistan.
The guys want to be back in
Prague for the Rolling Stones concert on July 27, 2003. Well, they say, that
is Plan A. The more conservative Plan B is to return to Prague around August
12, 2003.
