Paul
F. Giorgio, who reached the Summit of Everest
last year on May 24th as a member of the Jagged
Globe Expedition, returns to Everest this Spring with a full plate of
plans.
|
Paul's
goals include the measurement of the snow cap of
Everest. Paul is working with renowned mountain
photographer and explorer, Bradford Washburn to measure
the snow cap on Everest. The Boston Museum of
Science is sponsoring Paul on this quest to measure
the depth of the snow cap. The goal is to obtain an
accurate reading of the snow depth on the summit using special
equipment developed by the Museum. Mr. Washburn
believes the rock summit is several feet below the
snowpack.
The
equipment to be used weighs around 3 lbs and consists
of four 30 inch long stainless steel poles that fit
together. The bottom pole has an ice screw that will
let Paul screw through the ice.
