Meru Central peak. Altitude by altimeter was 6310
meters. The weather is excellent. The way down is by

6/14/2001: A six members Russian Team for Latok III is
here to make final arrangement before they depart for
Skardu. The team members are Alex Ruchkin, Serge
Hajinow, Igor Barihin, Michael Davi, Alexander Klenow

Out
of 10 big walls in the World which offer 1000 meters
vertical climb, they have climbed 5 until now with all
new routes, Peak 4810 in Pamir, Peak Ak-Su in Pamir,
Troll Wall in Norway, Bhagirathi III in India and
Trango Tower in Pakistan. The other five including
Latok III are now in their agenda with new routes. The
Russian Route!

22nd: Nikolai Kozhemiako, Alexander Foigt (without
oxygen) and Yuri Uteshev reached the summit at 2p.m.
Sergei Zuev gave up at 8500 meters
May
23rd: Stanislav Krylov, Anna Akinina (woman) and Aman
Eleushev reached the summit after noon. Alexei
Nikiforov gave up at 8600 meters. After the climb
Akinina descended to the 8300 meter camp. Krylov,
Eleushev and Nikiforov had a cold night outdoors at
8500 meters. The next day Nikiforov died after an
unsuccessful rescue.
