Sergi
Mingote Everest Expedition
Sergi
Mingote, a mountain climber, is attempting "the greater
challenge of his race: to reach the ceiling of the world
without supplemental oxygen and by the difficult North
Face route, and he plans to do this alone!" Sergi was born in Parets del Valles, Barcelona in
1971.
Dispatch: May
2, Recovery at Chinese base camp, at 5,200 meters
"The
body recovers faster from effort below 6000 meters, according
to
the Colombian doctor". "I am willing to attack
the Everest summit between the 10th and 15th of May."
Departing
from C1 to C2 over a stretch of snow and ice, this last
Monday. Climbing down from ABC has been quick for me, it took
me only four hours and a half. I have descended to this
camp to have a faster recovery. The doctor from the Colombian
expedition advised me to do so, not because I am in bad shape,
but I think the body recovers faster from effort below 6000
meters.
I have met
again with the Valencia expedition members, who are resting
here since last Friday. Here is also the team from TVE
who is covering the "Al filo de lo imposible"
expedition, and, of course, my Colombian friends, who have
descended with me.
I am willing
to attack the Everest summit between the 10th and 15th of May.
Around these dates and after spending some five days at
Chinese base camp, I will be totally recovered. The day has
gone by between chats and exchange of impressions and calls to
the media. I have to confess that, after so many days of
solitude, I was in the mood to go back to civilization (if
that is what a base camp can be called), and to mingle with
people. Now, when it is 23:00 hours, I am with other fellows
about to watch The Matrix.
Regards to
all. Sergio Mingote -- Chinese base camp
