Sergi
Mingote Everest Expedition
Sergi
Mingote, a mountain climber, is attempting "the greater
challenge of his race: to reach the ceiling of the world
without supplemental oxygen and by the difficult North
Face route, and he plans to do this alone!" Sergi was born in Parets del Valles, Barcelona in
1971.
Dispatch: May
4: Worries because of bad weather
"It has
snowed today, and seeing the mountain too covered with snow means it has
to be worked again". "Between intestinal sickness
from some and flu from others, no one escapes".
It has snowed
today. Another day of bad weather, and the forecast for
tomorrow is bad too. I don't give up, but I know that
the summit opportunities take a long time between one and the
other. There is a sense of worry among us. Seeing
the mountain too covered means it has to consolidate in order
for it to be safe for us to make another attempt.
At BC, between intestinal sickness from some and flu from
others, no one escapes, but we know this is the minimum
tribute we have to pay to the Mother God of Mountains for
trying to climb it... besides the loss of weight and the month
of discomfort we have to endure.
What is clear
is that everybody knew what we came here for. It's just
that we pretend to avoid the bad part of trying to ascend the
tallest mountain on Earth.
