Mingote Everest Expedition
Sergi
Mingote, a mountain climber, is attempting "the greater
challenge of his race: to reach the ceiling of the world
without supplemental oxygen and by the difficult North
Face route, and he plans to do this alone!" Sergi was born in Parets del Valles, Barcelona in
1971.
Dispatch May
5: Trekking to Everest begins.
"During
this day I have taken care of many chores, domestic and of
hygiene in nature. My cough
persists in some moments of the day, specially by night"
"I plan to go out to ABC again on May 8"
A group of
people goes out tomorrow, Sunday, to do the trekking to
Everest. I am happy, because this initiative came out at
the same time
as my expedition. This trek is done by people of the
area of Vallθs Oriental (Parets del Vallθs, Granollers, Sant
Feliu de Codines, l'Ametlla del Vallθs) and among them is my
Dad, which is another motivation. I would like to
encourage them from here, and tell them that to contemplate
the highest mountain in the world from where they are is
wonderful. I hope I can meet them in Katmandu.
During this
day of chores. I showered and did a little laundry. This is physically OK;
the only problem is my throat, because cough persists in some
moments of the day, specially by night.
I have met a
fellow from Guatemala, who is curiously named Jaime Viρals
[Himalayan Experience Everest Expedition 2001] and his mom is
from Figueres. As the emotional note of the day, I have
to say that around seven o'clock in the evening I have
received a call from my Mayor Joan Seguer, who has transmitted
me all the support and strength from his part, as well as from
all my town.
I plan to go
out to ABC again on May 8. The weather reports are not
good, but I hope they change a little from Tuesday on.
Regards,
Sergi Mingote Moreno -- Chinese Base Camp. Everest
