Sergi
Mingote Everest Expedition
Sergi
Mingote, a mountain climber, is attempting "the greater
challenge of his race: to reach the ceiling of the world
without supplemental oxygen and by the difficult North
Face route, and he plans to do this alone!" Sergi was born in Parets del Valles, Barcelona in
1971.
May 6:
Getting stronger every day to depart to ABC
"If
everything goes as planned, my second attempt to summit will
be around the 15th" "To celebrate Mother's day,
those of us who speak Spanish have planned a celebration
dinner"
Today is a
splendid day. Is one of those days in which the illusion
to summit invades you again. As in the last days, every
hour has been shared with my fellows, Vνctor and Jaime, from
TVE; Miguel, from Retevisiσn (who is in charge to transmit
live); Nacho, from Eresmas; David, Jorge and Endika, from the
Valencia expedition; Dimitri, from the Russian expedition, and
Juan Pablo, Fercho, Chelo and Manolo, from the
Colombian expedition, besides our cooks and sherpas.
Everyone named here are the guys from different expeditions
who have the same goal: summit Everest.
To celebrate
Mother's day, those of us who speak Spanish have planned a
celebration dinner and we are dividing chores between our
different cooks. We are helping them to cook some
unknown meals for them, such as the Spanish potato
tortilla.
I am getting
stronger every day to depart to ABC. Now at 19:32 hours
it is snowing fiercely, and the wind has been in action, but I
hope it will
be brief. If a monzon comes, we should all pack and go
back home.
A trekking
group of the expedition "Parets al sostre del mon"
has departed today to Katmandu. It would be incredible
if they could be at
the bottom of the Nepalese side of Everest, while I could
summit from the Tibetan face... but that is just a
dream.
What I have
planned today is to wait as much as the 10th at BC, because
the weather forecasts are not getting better. If
everything goes as planned (which is improbable on the
Himalayas), my second summit attempt would be around the 15th.

Dispatch May
7: A little beans can cost you the summit
"Everybody
has nausea and some have been puking"
"Before
dinner I have been with Tiling, fixing a plan to attack the
summit" Today Fercho -a fellow from the Colombian
expedition- has wanted to delight us with beans which have not
been good to us. We are all with nausea and some have
been puking... This can cost us the summit! Add to
all this a mild cold... well, not a good day at the
physical level.
The morning
has been sunny, but during the afternoon the sky has covered
until it has started to snow again. Yesterday, Sunday,
we celebrated Mother's day, with a huge dinner with all the
members of the expeditions that are here.
The satellite
phone gave me the creeps. The earphone cable was broken
but luckily Nacho (from Eresmas) could weld the cable, or I
would be totally incommunicated. Before dinner I have been
with Tiling, fixing a plan to attack the summit. This is
the idea: May 9, Yack Camp; days 10,11 and 12, ABC; day 13,
CI; day 14, CII; day 15, CIII and day 16, Summit. The
weather will be the main factor in this plan.
Tomorrow I
will rest, take a lot of fluids and the medication that Dr.
Izaguirre, my expedition doctor, has ordered by phone.

Sergi Mingote Moreno -- Chinese Base Camp. Everest
