Everest
2001 Expedition: Polytechnic University of Valencia
Three
climbers from Valencia, Spain will attempt Everest
from the Standard North Col Route. This group has
participated in three expeditions together and has
worked to become a close-knit team. In the Himalayas, two of the three
summited Cho Oyu (8,201) and, most recently, they had
an unsuccessful expedition to Manaslu. This
was caused by bad weather. Of note is
that they were accosted by terrorists during the trek
to Manaslu!
Dispatch:
26th April: Today our sherpas and Sergi
have gone up to CI to leave oxygen. Recently we have rationalized
our efforts, we understood that 2 attempts of 2
climbers would be better than one of three and another
of one.So
we can share tents and the work of the sherpas and get
the same results with less effort.
We
have eaten with the Colombians, recently who have
received us in their tent, much more welcoming than
ours, and we have been discussing the best way to
attack the mountain
These
days we are reliant on the weather , so we arealready thinking of making a summit attempt
when we have established the camps at higher altitude. At the moment the worst of our enemies is the
wind, which is destroying a lot of tents at C1 and
which can make progression to CII difficult.Another element to overcome is the cold, which
in theory will not improve until early May, but we are
not downhearted, we know that we still have many days
ahead of us on the mountain in order to reach the
summit of Everest.
