Canada Shishapangma Autumn 2002
|
This
Canada Expedition led by Steve Adamson is planning on
attempting Shishapangma in Autumn 2002 to prepare for
Everest in Spring 2004. Steves first expedition to
the Himalayas was in 1984. He led the Canadian
expedition to Mount Tilicho (23,500'). The team
attempted to make the first winter ascent of the
mountain, but they were turned back by 12 feet of
fresh snow. He led a second winter expedition to
Tilicho in 1989, but the team was turned back by
extreme cold. He finally led the team that put the
first Canadian on the summit of Mount Tilicho in the
fall of 1994.
He
led an expedition the Annapurna I (26,500') in the
winter of 1987. Annapurna I is the tenth highest
mountain in the world, and the team attempted a new
route on the south face. At 10,000 vertical feet, the
south face is one of the highest rock faces in the
world. The team established camps to a high point of
24,000 feet, but were turned back by heavy snow before
being able to make a summit attempt.
Steve
has also led expeditions to Mt. Pumori (24,000') and
to Putha Hiunchuli (23,500'), both in the Himalaya
mountains of Nepal. In addition to leading expeditions
to the Himalayas, Steve has pioneered many new routes
in New Brunswick. He has over a 100 new rock and ice
climbs to his credit. Steve has also been teaching
climbing for 20 years, and manages a climbing gym in
Saint John. Steve has a degree in Electrical
Engineering, and teaches in the Electronic Technology
program at the New Brunswick Community College.
