Everest
2001 Expedition: Polytechnic University of Valencia
|
Three
climbers from Valencia, Spain will attempt Everest
from the North Col Route. They have become a
close-knit team by participating in three expeditions
together. In the Himalayas, two of the three
summited Cho Oyu (8,201) and, most recently, they had
an unsuccessful expedition to Manaslu. This
was caused by bad weather. Of note is
that they were accosted by terrorists during the trek
to Manaslu! (Dispatches

Dispatch
One:
The
Polytechnic University of Valencia started its
adventure today. David Rosa and Jorge Verdeguer
left today at 13:00 from the Valencian Airport en
route to Katmandu (Nepal) where they will meet up with
the third member of the expedition, Endika Urtaran who
leaves on the 31st of March. David Rosa and
Jorge Verdeguer will not arrive until the 22nd after
stops in Frankfurt and New Delhi. There, they
will deal with the drama of the bureaucracy.
They will then go trekking for acclimatization in the
Langtang National Park, in the north of Nepal where
there are altitudes higher than 5,000 meters to get
their bodies in shape to leave for Base Camp at
Everest. On the 1st of April they'll meet up
again with Endika Urtaran, in Katmandu. They'll
then leave for Lhasa (Tibet) and then after a few more
days of traveling, they'll make it to Base Camp on the
10th of April.
