Everest 2001 Expedition: Polytechnic University of Valencia

Three climbers from Valencia, Spain will attempt Everest from the North Col Route.  They have become a close-knit team by participating in three expeditions together.  In the Himalayas, two of the three summited Cho Oyu (8,201) and, most recently, they had an unsuccessful expedition to Manaslu.  This was caused by bad weather. Of note is that they were accosted by terrorists during the trek to Manaslu! (Dispatches are below)

David Rosa (27) Main expeditions: Bolivian Andes 96, highest peak: Illimani (6490m), Cho-Oyu 98 (8201m) highest altitude (CIII-7500m), Manaslu 2000(8163m) highest altitude (CI-6100m). He has climbed several other mountains... He was selected to represent the Valencian Region in Winter Alpinist Stage 96

Endika Urtaran (28)  Main expeditions: Atlas 92, highest Peak: Toubkal (4170m) Bolivian Andes 96, highest peak: Illimani (6.490m) ,Cho-Oyu 98 (8201m) Summitted, Manaslu 2000 (8163m) highest altitude (CI-CII-6250m)

Jorge Verdeguer (26) Main expeditions: Atlas 92, highest Peak: Toubkal (4170m) Bolivian Andes 96, highest peak: Illimani (6490m), Cho-Oyu 98 (8201m) Summitted,  Manaslu 2000 (8163m) highest altitude (CI-CII-6250m) He was selected to represent the Valencian Region in Winter Alpinist Stage 96.

Dispatch One: The Polytechnic University of Valencia started its adventure today.  David Rosa and Jorge Verdeguer left today at 13:00 from the Valencian Airport en route to Katmandu (Nepal) where they will meet up with the third member of the expedition, Endika Urtaran who leaves on the 31st of March.  David Rosa and Jorge Verdeguer will not arrive until the 22nd after stops in Frankfurt and New Delhi.  There, they will deal with the drama of the bureaucracy.  They will then go trekking for acclimatization in the Langtang National Park, in the north of Nepal where there are altitudes higher than 5,000 meters to get their bodies in shape to leave for Base Camp at Everest.  On the 1st of April they'll meet up again with Endika Urtaran, in Katmandu.  They'll then leave for Lhasa (Tibet) and then after a few more days of traveling, they'll make it to Base Camp on the 10th of April.
