Everest climbs North side 2002!
have told EverestNews.com that they believe there
were illegal climbs (!) on the North side of
Everest this year.
have told EverestNews.com that one of the illegal
climbers possibly died! Another company told
EverestNews.com, "We did receive information on the
climbs. But due to the unavailability of real proof,
we cannot go ahead."
the large numbers of rescues and climbers who had to
be helped down or were just struggling down the mountain
this year on the North side, it is hard to
determine if one of these illegal climbers was
actually lost. It is highly possible that those who
believed one of the illegal climbers was lost,
confused these illegal climbers with other climbers
who had serious problems. We assume this is the
and expedition companies are not happy at all about
these events on the North side of Everest in Spring
2002. Look for this story to quietly continue .... "Real
proof" is going to be difficult, unless a family comes
forward looking for a relative. But that has not
happened yet to our knowledge....
A wild and crazy year
on the North side with many unsupported climbers. In
Simone Moro's words, "more than 70% of the climber I
saw in base camp are not ready to try Everest and
logic is they will continue to have problems in that
and other high mountains. They must be happy that they
are still in life and that no storm came seriously on
the mountain. It is not enough to run 1 hour every
day, or climb Aconcagua or Cho Oyu or other simple
climb to consider him/her self ready for Everest. This
mentality will continue to be the Russian roulette for
many climbers and the death of many values."
