Very
Special Thanks from the Czech 2002 PRE
Kangchenjunga Expedition
|
Zdenek Hruby, Martin
Minarik, and Radek Jaros of the Czech 2002 PRE
Kangchenjunga Expedition would like to send very
special thanks to two men, Mr. Tendy Sherpa of Ice
Land Trekking and Expeditions, and Mr. Yerv and
Ilinskiy, leader of the Kazakh Kangchenjunga
expedition.
Simply excellent,
say Zdenek, Martin, and Radek of Mr. Tendy Sherpa and
his Kathmandu based agency Ice Land Trekking and
Expeditions. The Czech expedition had hired an agency
to provide support services. (Lets keep the name
undisclosed.) The agency promised the whole world,
confirmed the promises, yet, somehow it forgot to
deliver. Mr. Tendy Sherpa had never heard about the
Czech 2002 expedition to Kangchenjunga until Martin
landed in Kathmandu and called him from the airport.
Nevertheless, he and his agency arranged for
everything needed -- in a highly professional
manner and in almost no time! In less than three days,
a group of 21 porters traveled on a truck from
Kathmandu to Suketar, while two days later, Martin
flew to Biratnagar and from there to Taplejung/Suketar.

It should be said
that there were more occasions during the
expedition, when Tendy showed a great deal of
professionalism and of sound judgment. The
expedition wishes to give him very special thanks,
indeed. Highly recommended!
Another very special
thanks go to Mr. Yervand Ilinskiy, leader of the
Kazakh 2002 Kangchenjunga Expedition. |

After reaching the
summit by Martin and Radek, upon their return to the
base camp, the Czech climbers found their satellite
phone dead. For two days they kept trying every trick
possible to make it work, but all attempts failed. The
Kazakh climbers, whose base came was nearby, tried to
help, but even all the technical skills combined did
not make the phone work. It was only then that a base
camp cook admitted that he had played with the phone
and had disabled it for good. For bad -- for real bad
-- one should say. Mr. Ilinskiy let the Czech
expedition use the Kazakh phone to send brief news
home. Zdenek, Martin, and Radek want to thank him for
his help. And I want to thank you, Mr. Ilinskiy, too,
on behalf of all of us, who had been waiting for news,
worried, having known that the guys must have long
been back in the base camp or something had happened,
having had no news and no connection.

Credits to the
remarkable success of the Kazakh team that in
spite of this years poor conditions on
Kangchenjunga put 7 its members on the summit,
without supplemental oxygen and high-altitude
porters, are part of the Czech expeditions summit
