live to radio 5 in London said they were asked for
money, like the Makalu teams last spring (Makalu 2002:
Armed Maoists demand money
from the Makalu teams!) So Stevie, then appeared
stuck not wanting to face the rebels on the way
down....
The controversial Stevie
Haston, who while always claiming to hate the press,
talks a lot to the press... After this he might go
back to hating the press more...
We would like to it

Update Various sources
are reporting the climbers are safe after being
airlifted out of the area.....
nepalnews is reporting
the climbers safe and, " A trekking agent who
preferred anonymity said expeditions pay Maoists
Rs.4000 per person in the Mount Makalu area and $100
per person in the Simikot area in far west Nepal to
buy the goodwill of the rebels. The expedition
activity continues uninterrupted after paying the
