Mt. Everest 2004: George Dijmarescu and Lakpa Sherpa

Lakpa comes from a climbing family with both a brother and a sister who have summited the world's tallest mountain. On May 22, 2003 Lhakpa summited Everest via the Tibetan side with her sister Ming Kipa Sherpa, who was making her first summit, and her brother Mingma Myalu, making his third ascent. This was a first - three family members on the summit at the same time. Also on the expedition was their cousin, Pasang Sherpa, who was helping out at base camp.

Lakpa's family lives in the Himalayan highlands and as the family tends livestock (including their 25 yaks) at high altitudes they are well acclimated to the rugged Himalayan conditions. The family herds produce milk and butter, which is sold to the villagers and to climbers passing through. The family also runs a teashop at the base of the 8,000-meter Mount Makalu.
