Dr. Stayko Kulaksazov (1949-2002)

With the death of
Stayko Kulaksazov on December 24, 2002 (in the car
accident on the high road Varna-Sofia, in the vicinity
of town Sevlievo), Bulgarian Alpine Club lost an
extraordinary representative; Medicine Commission of
UIAA lost her member (since 1985) and Bulgarian
mountaineers and climbers their Doki. |

Stayko born in 1949
(March 4) in town Shumen. He
received her diploma from Bulgarian Academy of
Medicine in 1974. After working in the National Center
of the Sport Medicine, of late
years he was head of department International
Cooperation in the Ministry of Health of Republic
Bulgaria.
Dr Stayko Kulaksazov
was a doctor of the all Bulgarian National Himalayan
expedition:
1981 Lhotse (8516
m, first Bulgarian eightthousander),
1984
Everest (second integral ascent via West Ridge),
1989 Annapurna
(8091 m, by Netherlands Route),
2002 Broad Peak
(8047 m).
Furthermore Dr
Kulaksazov was a doctor of the generally 23 groups and
expeditions in Caucasus, Pamir, Tien Shan, Mongolian
Altai, Karakoram and Himalayas including first
Bulgarian winter Himalayan expedition on the South
face of Annapurna in 1985/ 86.
Our unforgettable
friend made various ascents on these expeditions:
- 1982 - Munh
Hayrhan (4362 m, higher peak of Mongolia),
4180 m unnamed and unclimbed
peak,
- 1983 East
Elbrus in winter,
- 1985
Cheget (in Caucasus),
- 1982, 1983
Peak Lenin (at that time,
nowadays Peak Caufman, 7134 m),
- 1987 - Peak
Parashutistov (Parachutists
Peak in Pamir).
- 1984, 1985, 1988 Peak Korzhenevskoi (7104
m).
For his many close
friends in Bulgaria and abroad who mourn his untimely
death, we think of him with the following lines, Life
is motion and splendid, rest your part is ended.
