my friends, The Pup & I have returned safely from
our Adirondack adventure having endured 4 hours in the
pouring rain and being turned back only .5 miles from
the summit because of lightning (the day before 13
people were hit). In sopping wet boots I went up
again the next day in beautiful weather and enjoyed an
awesome view from the top, 5,114' above sea level. We
had our first three bear encounters and I really did
see a tree fall in the woods!!!! Does that mean that
it didn't happen?
we want to know: Did the Pup or you make it up first?]
I have to tell the
truth...the Pup (Chloe, a Siberian Husky) reached the
true summit of Algonquin shortly before 1:00pm and was
followed by me a moment later. Chloe was ready for
more and I was huffing and puffing and looking for a
nice place to rest. Thanks... Have a good day... Tom
a serious note, Tom will leave us again in September.

name is Tom West, VaccineRider 31260, and I am a
volunteer here at EverestNews.com. From September 5
through 9, 2001 I will be participating in the
Pallotta Teamworks Canada-US Aids/VaccineRide. This
ride is to raise money and awareness for HIV/AIDS. I
will be riding my bicycle from Montreal, Canada to
Portland, Maine, USA.
This ride will take me 400 miles in 5 days, not
as big a deal as climbing Everest, but it is every bit
as important to me! 34 million people in the world
today are infected with HIV/AIDS and something must be
done to help eliminate what has become the worlds most
equal opportunity killer.
contribute to my cause by going to www.vaccineride.org
and click on the Canada-US ride and make a
contribution to VaccineRider 31260. I thank you in
advance for your support, as I will not be able to
ride without it.
