Extreme Everest 2001 Expedition
May
14th Update
This Update was
sent on the request on EverestNews.com asking
for status on the North Side of the mountain.
Thank you Terry !
Dear
EverestNews.com, Right now [this was send at
approx on 5/14/2001
at 3:58pm
in Tibet] we are watching the American
Sherpa's and some of the team climbing above
their 8100m camp
- earlier today a
group of Americans apparently turned back from
about 8400m
because of deep
snow
on the mountain. Three
strongest members from our group,
(now running out of time because of departure
dates and bad weather) are
moving up to the north Col tomorrow and with
Sherpa support will go to 8300 to attempt one
shot at the top.
The small 2
person Swiss team are also moving up
in the hope of finding a weather window. Deppish
snow is hampering attempts as 1.5m has fallen on
N. Col and many tents have been lost. Higher,
fixed rope is difficult to locate and even tents
are below feet of fresh snow.
I
hope that is some help
