K2/Chogori
Winter 2003
12/7/2002. On Monday, December 16,
the very first winter expedition in history is going to set out to the second
summit of the world, K2 (8611 m) from its northern, Chinese side. A week
earlier, the participants of the expedition will be bidden farewell in Warsaw.
The leave-taking, along
with the accompanying press conference, will take place on December 9, 2002,
noon, at the Klub Dziennikarza ("Journalist Club") at ul. Foksal 3/5.
The Netia K2 Polish
Winter Expedition 2002/2003 will be headed by Krzysztof Wielicki. Apart from
Polish alpinists, also mountaineers from Georgia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are
going to take part in it. Special correspondent Monika Rogozińska will be
reporting on the course of the struggle to reach the summit for "Rzeczpospolita".
From January 6, 2003, direct transmissions from the base on the K2 glacier (5100
m) are also anticipated on TVP channel 1. M.R.
