 Nepal News: Press Release from Nepal Tourism Board 02/21/02

Nepal participated in the 10th Belasia Fair held at Wemmel, Brussels from 16-17 February, 2002. Nepal Tourism Board in association with Transavia Airlines supported Royal Nepalese Embassy, Brussels, Belgium for Nepal's participation in the Fair.

Nepal was designated as the 'Host Country' in the Fair. The Asian Tourism Fair organized by Belasia provides every Asian country with the forum of being a 'host country' on a year basis. Laos was the host country in 2001 which was preceded by Hong Kong, Thailand and India respectively.

His Excellency Mr. Kedar Bhakta Shrestha, Royal Nepalese Ambassador in Belgium officially opened the Fair in the presence of a large number of participants that also included representatives from the Belgian government as well as heads of diplomatic mission stationed in Brussels and journalists. Mr. Shrestha, delivering the opening statement thanked the Belasia for providing the excellent opportunity to Nepal to showcase Nepal tourism specialties - the tourist attractions, its handicrafts, some dances and to taste the Nepalese cuisine. He expressed the hope that the Fair would help promote Nepalese culture, trade and tourism in Benelux countries.

As a chief guest, H. E. Mrs. Snnemie Neyts Uytterbroeck, Minister of State and Foreign Affiars of Belgium was present on the occasion. While expressing the sincere wishes for the success of the Fair, she highlighted the excellent relationship subsisting between Nepal and Belgium. She also spoke about the growing importance of Asia in Europe mentioning that the European people are interested in frequently visiting Asian Countries.

Eighty-eight organizations from different Asian Countries participated in the Fair. Nepal and a number of NGO's in Belgium related to Nepal also participated in the Fair.
